Alex Almoukov - First Australian Biathlete to Qualify for a Pursuit!
NSWXC biathlete and 2010 Vancouver Olympian Alex Almoukov made history for Australia in becoming the first ever Australian to qualify for the prestigious IBU World Cup Pursuit race. In order to qualify for a Pursuit, a biathlete must finish in the top 60 of a World Cup race. Almoukov achieved this in Hochfilzen (AUT) in late December. In the same Trimester of racing Almoukov also finished 13th in an IBU Cup race again being the highest result ever achieved for an Australian athlete. Almoukov’s next major race meet is the Biathlon World Championships in February in Czech Republic where he will be looking to qualify a country start for AUS at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. |
