AMASDF Scholarships Announced

The Amelia McGuiness Australian Snowsports Development Foundation is recognised and commended throughout the snowsports community for its contribution and support of up-and-coming athletes. In the 3 years since the Foundation was established, in honor of Amelia McGuiness, a gifted and talented athlete and student, the committee has awarded $96,000 in Snowsport Scholarships. This has been achieved by the ongoing support of individuals and the business community.

Our committee is dedicated to identifying athletes that have the required attributes to make it as an elite athlete in this highly competitive sport. These decisions are often made with the advice and support of NSW Snowsports Discipline Committees, Head Coaches, and Olympians. These groups have firsthand experience and understanding of the determination, dedication, and sacrifices required for a snowsport athlete travelling the pathway towards representing Australia.

In our third year of operation, the Amelia McGuiness Australian Snowsports Development Foundation (AMASDF) received 64 applications requesting assistance from young athletes from NSW, ACT, QLD, VIC and WA.

Alex Almoukov Qualifies for Pursuit!

NSW Cross Country biathlete Alex Almoukov made history two days ago, becoming the first AUS athlete to qualify for the prestigious Biathlon World Cup Pursuit race. Building from his great results in Ostersund at World Cup No 1, Alex skied and shot fantastically to finish 58thin the 10km Sprint Race, with the top 60 Sprint athletes qualifying for the prestigious Pursuit race. These results are a great confidence builder for Alex as he seeks to continually build his form for the upcoming Biathlon World Championships in February in the Czech Republic. It will be these Championships where Alex will be seeking to achieve an automatic quota start for AUS at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. And with 2006 Olympic biathlete Cameron Morton making a comeback to international Biathlon racing this season, there is an outside chance of AUS qualifying a first ever relay team for the Biathlon World Championships.
