NSW Sports Federation Awards
NSW Snowsports is proud to announce that Nicole Harris has been selected as a finalist for the NSW Sports Federation 2012 Sports Awards.The Awards Dinner will be held on December 1st at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth.
NSW Snowsports nominated Nicole for the Athlete with a Disability Award. Nicole's 2012 achievements include INAS 6th World Nordic and Alpine Skiing Championships, Erzurum, Turkey, in which Nicole placed 1st in Giant Slalom, Slalom, Super Combined and 2nd Super-G. Other NSW Snowsports members nominated for awards included Alpine skier Oliver Thompson for the Young Athlete of the Year Award, and Snowboarder Jarryd Hughes for the Athlete of Year Award. The NSW Sports Federation is the industry body for sport in NSW. They are an independant not-for-profit organisation, representing NSW sports organisations as The Voice of Sport. |
2013 SERAS Snowsports SquadThe 2013 SERAS Scholarship Holders has been announced. Congratulations to all the NSW and ACT Snowsports athletes who were announced in the 2013 Squad. To view the 2013 SERAS Snowsports Squad click here SERAS (South East Regional Academy of Sport) works with NSW Snowsports and Snowsports ACT to deliver educational programs to develop the athletes understanding of sports psychology, sports physiology, strength and conditioning programs, media skills, public speaking, sports nutrition, time management and sports medicine. These scholarships are for athletes aged between 13 and 18 years of age. |

Perisher Range Cross Country Gets Serious
The Cross Country Ski community took a good, solid look at priorities and future directions at a day-long planning workshop in Jindabyne organized by KCros President Wayne Pethybridge and attended by stakeholders and interested parties.
It has been widely recognized by many in the XC community that some aspects of the sport that so many enjoy are in need of re-thinking and serious attention. Today’s workshop was the first step towards addressing those issues. A lengthy list of areas requiring attention was complied and refined to four key areas:

NSW Cross Country Starts Up Summer Dry-Land Training
NSW Cross Country athletes have commenced their summer dry-land training in Sydney. An active group of up to 10 athletes across both cross country and biathlon are training every Sunday morning in both roller skiing and strength and conditioning. The roller ski sessions are led by former Australian Team and World Championships Cross Country skier – Ewan Watson –with assistance from senior NSW cross country skier Sarah Slattery. Strength and Conditioning sessions are taken by Trinity Grammar Master in Charge of Athletics (and former Olympic Long Jumper/Triple Jumper) Andrew Murphy. Session times are as follows: Roller Skiing: 7.30am to 9am - Oatley Park, Oatley Park Ave, Oately 2223
Strength and Conditioning: 10am to 12noon - Trinity Grammar School There is a cost of each sessions is between $20 and $30 |
Biathlon Boys Train in Sweden
NSW Biathletes, Damon Morton, Hamish Roberts, Dyllan Harmer and Alex Gibson – are currently in Sweden starting their early season training block for the upcoming Northern Hemisphere winter. The boys are located with the Sveg school and their training involves daily shooting and cross country skiing as well as attending school at Sveg where they will be learning Swedish and sitting in on some other classes at the school. The boys have a big season ahead of them with Dyllan commencing on IBU Cup for Australia, and Damon racing at World Juniors with an eye to qualifying for IBU Cup. Both Alex and Hamish will be seeking qualification to World Juniors and will racing in both Sweden, Austria and Italy. |

2012 NSWACT Alpine Awards
On Saturday 3rd of November, NSW Alpine held the Annual Alpine Awards Night. Congratulations to all the winners at this years awards. |
The 2013 NSWACT State Children's Teams
The NSWACT State children's team for 2013 was announced at the NSW Alpine Awards night on 3rd Nov in Sydney. Congratulations to the 20 children in the birth years from1998 to 2002, who have been selected in the team. The selection criteria can also be found on the NSW Snowsports website under Alpine. |
