A Special Message from the NSW Interschools Snowsports Chairperson, Steve Cooper.

An Invite to our Champions of Organisation - the School Coordinators, Team Managers, and Course Officials, to join us at the 25th Anniversry Celebrations!

“After a champion year of snow and competition, it really is time for our school coordinators, team managers, and course officials to let down their hair and join us on Sydney Harbour on Saturday 27th October, celebrating our 25th Year of operation.

Our school coordinators are the critical component in our relationships with the schools, and along with our team managers and course officials, have collectively delivered one of the best and most comprehensive competitions available to young people across Australia, year after year, since 1988.

You may have heard me on the microphone this year suggesting that school communities should consider buying a ticket or 2,3,4 for their school coordinator, partner, and friends, as a way of saying a big thankyou for all that they did. That’s what we have done at Jindy Central, as we recognise that without our volunteer school coordinator and other key parents, then our level of involvement, fun and success would not be possible. If your school has forgot you, then it is time to break out, buy a ticket or two, and add it to next year’s costs - you know that you deserve it ! We can even invoice your school for ticket sales as well, just let us know, and we will let them know. Principals love that sort of stuff, and if you have a good one, bring him/her along as well and we will let them know just how good you are too !

So join us for a great evening of celebratory reminiscing with loads of good company, fun, wine, food, slideshows, video-footage, the odd speech, and some great Interschools music tracks. We hope to see you there ! The evening involves a cruise of Sydney Harbour on The Blue Room, which boards and docks at Bay 9 - King St Wharf at Darling Harbour (opposite the Cargo Bar) at 6.10pm (guests to arrive at 5.50pm). The Blue Room is an 85 foot glass dining vessel, providing 360 degree views of Sydney Harbour.

The event is open to everyone including parents, and previous athletes (over 18 years old).
Tickets are only on sale until Friday October 19.

Additionally, if you have any photos or video for the night, please email them to Rebecca at rmasterton@interschools.org.au  or Wendy at wpinkerton@interschools.org.au

See you there, and thankyou for all your work throughout our biggest year yet.”

Steve Cooper – Chair NSW Interschools Snowsports.

PHS - Australian Skiing - The First 100 Years Kosciuszko Alpine Resorts Community Education Survey

Perisher Historical Society was delighted to host a wonderfully successful launch of the book a few days ago by Winter Olympian and barrister Zali Steggall OAM at the Royal Australian Historical Society.

The Society is keen to assist in providing wide exposure for the book which is a ‘must have’ for all skiers, ski clubs and especially for all commercial ski accommodation establishments.

This survey is to assess resort visitor brand recognition of community education programs in the Kosciuszko National Park alpine resorts of Thredbo, Perisher (Blue Cow, Guthega, Perisher Valley and Smiggin Holes), Charlotte Pass and Selwyn Snowfields.

In winter the NSW alpine resorts receive an estimated 1.8 million visitors. These resorts contain natural values that are recognised as having international and national significance, including restricted habitats of threatened plant and animal species and alpine rivers and streams.

To increase awareness and improve protection of the alpine environment, the NPWS has initiated or adopted nine community education programs and delivered them directly to the alpine resorts community.

The delivery of these programs commenced in 2001 and the NPWS is now reviewing the programs to see if the issues they raised are still relevant and if they are changing the behaviour of the alpine resorts community for the better.
