Kosciuszko Alpine Resorts Community Educations Survey
This survey is to assess resort visitor brand recognition of community education programs in the Kosciuszko National Park alpine resorts of Thredbo, Perisher (Blue Cow, Guthega, Perisher Valley and Smiggin Holes), Charlotte Pass and Selwyn Snowfields.
In winter the NSW alpine resorts receive an estimated 1.8 million visitors. These resorts contain natural values that are recognised as having international and national significance, including restricted habitats of threatened plant and animal species and alpine rivers and streams.
To increase awareness and improve protection of the alpine environment, the NPWS has initiated or adopted nine community education programs and delivered them directly to the alpine resorts community.
The delivery of these programs commenced in 2001 and the NPWS is now reviewing the programs to see if the issues they raised are still relevant and if they are changing the behaviour of the alpine resorts community for the better.
